Job Description
Mortgage Loan Officer managing inbound residential mortgage applications for Connexus Credit Union. Underwriting loans, guiding members, and coordinating closings from inquiry through completion.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to inbound mortgage inquiries through phone, email, online banking, digital channels, referrals, and other approved sources
- Interview members and prospective borrowers to understand financing needs, financial circumstances, goals, and timing
- Educate members on mortgage products, terms, rates, requirements, repayment options, and costs
- Recommend appropriate mortgage solutions based on member needs, financial profile, loan purpose, and lending programs
- Initiate and manage mortgage applications from initial inquiry through closing
- Obtain, review, and analyze borrower information and documentation
- Underwrite, approve, recommend, or decline mortgage applications within lending authority and guidelines
- Coordinate complex, high-value, or high-risk mortgage loans with internal partners
- Maintain ownership of member relationships and provide timely status updates
- Manage follow-up activities on assigned inbound mortgage opportunities
- Collaborate with processors, credit analysts, underwriting, closing, lending support, and external transaction partners
- Ensure disclosures, closing documents, HMDA information, and other loan documentation are accurate and timely
- Assess and execute pricing and sale of residential mortgage loans in accordance with policies and secondary-market requirements
- Maintain a file quality target of 97% or greater
- Identify cross-selling and referral opportunities for additional Credit Union products and services
- Stay current on mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, regulations, and secondary-market requirements
- Meet goals related to mortgage production, loan quality, member experience, response times, efficiency, and fee income
- Comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, Credit Union policies, and lending procedures
Requirements:
- Associate degree in business, finance, banking, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is Required
- Minimum of 1 year of current mortgage lending experience within a financial institution is Required
- An active NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator Identifier is Required
- Demonstrated knowledge of residential mortgage lending products, underwriting principles, documentation requirements, and applicable regulations
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple mortgage applications and priorities while maintaining accuracy and established service-level expectations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and the ability to learn and effectively use mortgage loan origination and other Credit Union systems
- Demonstrated commitment to providing an exceptional member experience
- Monday–Friday availability, 8am–5pm CST
