Job Description

Senior Employee Relations Specialist managing compliant employee exits and first-level employee relations for Remote’s global employment platform. Advising clients across international jurisdictions and driving lifecycle process automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage and resolve complex end-to-end employee exits across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Advise clients on termination, resignation, transfer, employment contracts, and redundancy processes while ensuring legal compliance and best practices.
  • Lead client and external employee meetings, including workforce reduction consultations, administrative hearings, separation and settlement negotiations, and termination outcomes.
  • Influence and negotiate positive outcomes in complex terminations involving competing stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with payroll, legal counsel, government bodies, trade unions, and other stakeholders for compliant offboarding and audits.
  • Draft, tailor, and administer termination and supplementary documents while maintaining confidential employee records.
  • Process offboarding in Remote’s internal HRIS platform and coordinate with Customer Success, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and Time and Attendance teams.
  • Serve as an informal escalation point, mentoring and guiding junior team members.
  • Provide first-level Employee Relations guidance and help clients navigate complex workplace scenarios.
  • Assess workplace concerns, identify relevant facts and regulations, and determine potential paths forward.
  • Track employee relations cases and coordinate timely follow-up.
  • Resolve offboarding and first-level employee relations queries as a subject-matter expert.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, automation, product development, and better customer and employee experiences.
  • Determine methods, procedures, and standards for new assignments and adapt complex techniques to meet Lifecycle and Remote needs.
  • Report to the Manager Employee Lifecycle, Employee Relations & Transitions.

Requirements:

  • Experience as an HR Advisor or HR Business Partner, with generalist HR competencies and exposure across the employee lifecycle.
  • Proven experience independently managing voluntary and involuntary exits (terminations) with care, sensitivity and legal compliance.
  • Experience providing comprehensive HR advice and guidance on employment laws and regulations across various jurisdictions.
  • Understanding of employee relations principles, progressive discipline approaches, and workplace investigation fundamentals.
  • Ability to interpret and apply industrial instruments and analyze complex HR issues.
  • Ability to independently research issues, translate findings into usable team resources, and provide practical solutions.
  • Superior communication, influencing, conflict management, and negotiation skills.
  • Business-level (advanced) proficiency in written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Aptitude for process innovation, optimization, automation, and championing best practices.
  • Efficiency in operations, thorough record-keeping, and data integrity.
  • Tech-savvy and able to collaborate asynchronously using various tools and adapt to evolving systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and cohesively in an international, fast-paced, asynchronous, remote environment while balancing competing priorities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, with ownership and accountability.
  • Strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR/labour relations/employment law considered a plus.
