Job Description
Senior Employee Relations Specialist managing compliant employee exits and first-level employee relations for Remote’s global employment platform. Advising clients across international jurisdictions and driving lifecycle process automation.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage and resolve complex end-to-end employee exits across multiple international jurisdictions.
- Advise clients on termination, resignation, transfer, employment contracts, and redundancy processes while ensuring legal compliance and best practices.
- Lead client and external employee meetings, including workforce reduction consultations, administrative hearings, separation and settlement negotiations, and termination outcomes.
- Influence and negotiate positive outcomes in complex terminations involving competing stakeholders.
- Coordinate with payroll, legal counsel, government bodies, trade unions, and other stakeholders for compliant offboarding and audits.
- Draft, tailor, and administer termination and supplementary documents while maintaining confidential employee records.
- Process offboarding in Remote’s internal HRIS platform and coordinate with Customer Success, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and Time and Attendance teams.
- Serve as an informal escalation point, mentoring and guiding junior team members.
- Provide first-level Employee Relations guidance and help clients navigate complex workplace scenarios.
- Assess workplace concerns, identify relevant facts and regulations, and determine potential paths forward.
- Track employee relations cases and coordinate timely follow-up.
- Resolve offboarding and first-level employee relations queries as a subject-matter expert.
- Identify and drive process improvements, automation, product development, and better customer and employee experiences.
- Determine methods, procedures, and standards for new assignments and adapt complex techniques to meet Lifecycle and Remote needs.
- Report to the Manager Employee Lifecycle, Employee Relations & Transitions.
Requirements:
- Experience as an HR Advisor or HR Business Partner, with generalist HR competencies and exposure across the employee lifecycle.
- Proven experience independently managing voluntary and involuntary exits (terminations) with care, sensitivity and legal compliance.
- Experience providing comprehensive HR advice and guidance on employment laws and regulations across various jurisdictions.
- Understanding of employee relations principles, progressive discipline approaches, and workplace investigation fundamentals.
- Ability to interpret and apply industrial instruments and analyze complex HR issues.
- Ability to independently research issues, translate findings into usable team resources, and provide practical solutions.
- Superior communication, influencing, conflict management, and negotiation skills.
- Business-level (advanced) proficiency in written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus.
- Aptitude for process innovation, optimization, automation, and championing best practices.
- Efficiency in operations, thorough record-keeping, and data integrity.
- Tech-savvy and able to collaborate asynchronously using various tools and adapt to evolving systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and cohesively in an international, fast-paced, asynchronous, remote environment while balancing competing priorities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
- Proactive, self-motivated, with ownership and accountability.
- Strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.
- Tertiary qualifications in HR/labour relations/employment law considered a plus.
