Job Description

Senior Employee Relations Specialist managing compliant employee exits and first-level employee relations for Remote’s global employment platform. Advising clients across international jurisdictions while improving lifecycle processes and automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage and resolve complex end-to-end employee exits across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Advise clients on termination, resignation, transfer procedures, employment contracts, and redundancy processes.
  • Lead client and external employee meetings, including workforce reduction consultations, administrative hearings, separation negotiations, settlements, and termination outcomes.
  • Influence and negotiate positive outcomes in complex terminations involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with payroll, legal counsel, government bodies, trade unions, and other stakeholders on offboarding compliance and audits.
  • Draft, tailor, and administer termination and supplementary documents while maintaining accurate, confidential employee records.
  • Process offboarding in Remote’s internal HRIS and collaborate with Customer Success, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and Time and Attendance teams.
  • Serve as an informal escalation point, providing expertise, mentoring, and guidance to junior team members.
  • Provide first-level Employee Relations guidance and help clients navigate complex workplace concerns.
  • Conduct preliminary assessments of workplace concerns, identifying facts, applicable regulations, and potential paths forward.
  • Track employee relations cases and coordinate timely follow-up with relevant stakeholders.
  • Resolve internal and external queries on offboarding and first-level employee relations matters.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, automation, product development, and customer and employee experience enhancements.
  • Determine methods, procedures, and standards for new assignments using judgment and complex evaluation criteria.
  • Report to the Manager Employee Lifecycle, Employee Relations & Transitions.

Requirements:

  • Experience as an HR Advisor or HR Business Partner, with generalist HR competencies and exposure across the employee lifecycle.
  • Proven experience independently managing voluntary and involuntary exits (terminations) with care, sensitivity and legal compliance.
  • Experience providing comprehensive HR advice and guidance on employment laws and regulations across various jurisdictions.
  • Understanding of employee relations principles, progressive discipline approaches, and workplace investigation fundamentals.
  • Ability to interpret and apply industrial instruments and analyze complex HR issues.
  • Ability to independently research issues, translate findings into usable team resources, and provide practical solutions.
  • Superior communication, influencing, conflict management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to independently lead difficult conversations toward positive outcomes while maintaining professionalism and strict confidentiality.
  • Business-level (advanced) proficiency in written and spoken English; additional languages considered a plus.
  • Aptitude for process innovation, optimization, automation, and championing best practices.
  • Efficiency in operations, thorough record-keeping, and data integrity awareness.
  • Tech-savvy and able to collaborate asynchronously using various tools and adapt to evolving systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and cohesively in an international, fast-paced, asynchronous, remote environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, with strong ownership and accountability.
  • Strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR/labour relations/employment law considered a plus.
