Job Description
Remote Commercial Lines Territory Manager growing profitable commercial insurance business across North Carolina and Virginia. Managing agents, underwriting decisions, agency profitability, prospecting and marketing plans for Penn National Insurance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as liaison between Penn National Insurance and agents
- Act as relationship manager for agents, regional underwriting teams and corporate departments
- Assess agent strengths and weaknesses and help achieve profitable growth in premium volume and policy count
- Ensure agents understand commercial lines initiatives, products, policies, procedures and services
- Conduct commercial lines agency prospecting, planning and agency management initiatives
- Collaborate with and support Underwriters and RVPs on small business and mid-market decisions
- Perform limited direct underwriting of small commercial new business when directed
- Develop agency forces to pre-qualify, rate and bind profitable commercial lines business
- Build professional relationships with agents, underwriting and claims teams, and corporate departments
- Evaluate prospective agents and submit written recommendations to the Regional Vice President
- Maintain continuous two-way communication between agents and the company
- Monitor agency growth, profitability, compliance and results
- Share industry information, ideas, products and carrier philosophy changes
- Conduct ongoing agency prospecting to create a pipeline of potential future appointments
- Participate in commercial lines rate reviews
- Make consistent underwriting decisions within assigned authority
- Profile commercial lines books of business for profitability analysis
- Develop and implement agency profitability plans and corrective action plans
- Facilitate agency reviews and compare performance against established goals
- Train agency personnel on programs, products, services and systems
- Develop annual agency/company marketing plans
- Analyze territory profitability, premium growth and agency representation
- Apply, compile, manipulate and analyze data to solve business problems
- Perform other duties assigned by the President-Partners Mutual or Regional Vice President
Requirements:
- Four year college degree preferred
- Continuing education in specialized insurance courses such as IIA, AU, CPCU, and CIC, as well as other educational experiences that enhance product knowledge and technical business relations
- Maintenance of an active agent’s P&C license in domiciled state preferred
- Minimum of three years’ property/casualty commercial lines underwriting and/or marketing experience with a Property and Casualty carrier preferred
- Agency or broker experience with heavy concentration in underwriting exposure/risk and marketing may substitute for carrier experience
- Technical underwriting knowledge of the commercial lines of business written by Penn National Insurance
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate highly technical information
- Proven sales, negotiations, and solution-selling skills
- Working knowledge of agency and Company automation systems and personal computers, with emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Good financial analysis skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong commercial lines underwriting analysis skills
- Must be able to see and effectively use a computer monitor
- Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, applicable printers and other general office equipment
- Must be able to access and enter information accurately using automated systems
- Must be able to hear and communicate via telephone and/or monitoring devices
- Must be able to present information to individuals and groups
- Must be able to interpret and apply concepts that may or may not be based upon established guidelines
- Must maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle
- Must be able to travel, with overnight stays required
