Job Description

Mortgage Loan Officer responsible for originating first mortgage and equity loans at VyStar Credit Union. Providing quality service and ensuring compliance with mortgage lending policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • responsible for originating residential first mortgage and equity loans
  • participates in related business development activities
  • ensuring quality mortgage loan origination servicing in accordance with VyStar policies, practices and procedures
  • counsels members and evaluates credit applications
  • solicits residential mortgage loans and equity loans through contacts with realtors, builders, and personal referrals
  • provides quality service to members seeking residential mortgage loans
  • interviews applicants to develop financial needs and assist in determining acceptable credit risk
  • obtains and analyzes financial and credit data
  • enters data into the point of sale origination software
  • discusses application with member and addresses questions about mortgage loan programs
  • maintains communication with processor regarding mortgage loan file progress
  • documents communication with the member and/or other interested parties in the mortgage origination software
  • assists mortgage loan processor and closer to obtain documentation for a smooth mortgage loan process
  • proactively communicates loan status throughout the process

Requirements:

  • minimum of two years prior experience in the mortgage industry preferably as a mortgage loan officer or mortgage loan interviewer
  • proven production and proven track record in heavy customer contact
  • self-disciplined and goal oriented worker
  • demonstrated ability to work independently
  • superior communication skills
  • familiarity with conventional, VA, FHA, and equity loan financing
  • knowledge of all regulations governing mortgage lending
  • well versed in private mortgage insurance and secondary market lending guidelines
  • high school diploma or its equivalent, however a two-year college degree or higher is preferred
  • must meet and maintain all requirements as a registered mortgage loan originator employed by a Federally regulated Institution with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS)
