Job Description
Business Development Manager growing ABB Installation Products adoption among machine builders and electrical panel builders. Driving specification, standardization, customer relationships, and sales growth across the Illinois territory.
Responsibilities:
- Develop understanding of Machine Builder OEM and Electrical OEM / Panel Builder customer needs.
- Position ABB Installation Products solutions to drive specification, standardization, and market share growth.
- Build and maintain relationships with machine builders, UL 508A panel builders, engineering teams, system integrators, and other stakeholders.
- Identify new business opportunities and serve as a trusted advisor.
- Drive design-in, specification, and standardization across customer machine platforms and control panel designs.
- Gather and analyze market intelligence, customer feedback, industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging technologies.
- Provide actionable insights supporting growth initiatives, product development, and marketing strategies.
- Deliver technical support, product training, demonstrations, and educational programs to customers, channel partners, and ABB sales teams.
- Collaborate with Market Development, Sales, Product Management, and distribution partners on commercial strategies and key account planning.
- Execute the defined go-to-market strategy and market plan.
- Achieve sales growth, specification, and business development objectives within Machine OEM and Electrical OEM market segments.
- Report to and collaborate closely with the Market Development Manager; position reports to the Director of Industrial Sales.
Requirements:
- BS/BA in business, marketing, engineering, or related fields required.
- 5+ years of experience in technical specification/product marketing in the electrical industry, preferably in the Transportation & Industrial OEM markets.
- Strong business acumen.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage assigned workload.
- Ability to influence others and build strong professional relationships.
- Ability to work in a complex, matrixed structure where cooperation is gained through influence.
- Track record of new customer/business development.
- Experience with customer relations via specification, visits, training, etc.
- Ability to develop an understanding of the product portfolio and its market applications.
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
- Must already have work authorization permitting employment with ABB in the United States.
